a serious hockey tournament with a serious purpose

Please join the roller hockey community and its growing list supporters including the Anaheim Ducks, Mission Hockey, Revision Hockey, Eschelon Sports, Oakley Corp., Marriott, Pathway Capital Mgmt., California Sunset Escrow, K-1 Indoor Karting, and many more in this charitable event!

Calling on the popular phrase Give Blood - Play Hockey as its namesake for the second year, GBPH 2008 is a highly competitive, three day roller hockey tournament that invites teams, players, families and the community alike to participate in this exciting roller hockey and fundraising event.

Donate. Play. Give.

Loaded with fun-filled activities, the event encourages adults in the community to Be A Hero, Become A Donor by donating their Life-Giving Blood, by registering with the National Marrow Donor Program, and by helping with this fundraiser whose proceeds benefit both the Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) and the Registry.

Donate. Play. Give.

The second annual Give Blood Play Hockey Inline Hockey Charity Tournament (GBPH 2008) will be held at the 949 Roller Hockey Center on October 3rd, 4th and 5th and draw hundreds of hockey players and their families, fans and community supporters devoted to helping charitable causes including Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), the Orange County Blood Bank and the National Marrow Donor foundation through our Be A Hero, Become A Donor program, all while having fun in a carnival-like environment.

Proven by the results of 2007, this tournament is a marquis roller hockey event unique from any other and shouldn't be missed! Tournament attendance included 50 youth, high school and adult teams from across the state to compete for the perennial Blood Cup. When not rink side, attendees toured vendor booths, watched raffles and enjoyed fun family events. On Saturday afternoon, Ryan Getzlaf of the 2007 Stanley Cup winners, the Anaheim Ducks, spoke before an eager crowd of players later joining them for photo opportunities and an autograph session. The GBPH 2007 event was covered by local broadcast media and received attention in national magazine coverage and internet articles. GBPH 2008 proves to be even better and will again be filled with fun events, celebrity citings, and more!

GBPH 2008 has a few surprises for attendees in the works... Aside from a record-breaking registration of teams making for top-notch competition, there will be skills contests on both Saturday and Sunday with cheer support from the Power Players of the Anaheim Ducks and the Aliso Niguel Drill Team (Sunday) watching best shot and other match-ups, Video games for kids of all ages, food and merchandise vendors and raffles galore: Ducks ticket packages (including a several top-rated seat packages and a Suite package Valued at $6,500, bidding for this item will start at $2,500), Kings tickets, Chargers tickets, and even Autographed Ducks merchandise, Golf package, Lodging packages, Hockey Gear, Apparel items, Electronics, student specials of a full ACT or SAT class and College Admissions Counseling, and much, much more!

Hosted by the 949 Roller Hockey Center in Irvine, CA and an all-volunteer group of inspired organizers whose Hockey With A Heart spirit is the foundation of this annual event, GBPH is also a serious hockey tournament with a serious purpose! With modest goals to start, tournament founder Mary Quayle and her many supporters and volunteers succeeded last year in raising $32,000 for the Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) and 107 pints of life-giving blood in a blood drive for the Orange County Blood Bank. With all this fun, it's also fun to give back!

This year's pledges to Give Blood have already exceeded our expectations, but our community needs more! Won't you please give, too?

We're also proud to be the first organization ever to sponsor the
Be A Hero, Become A Donor (BAHBAD) and National Marrow Donor Program by helping to pay for donor registrations from tournament proceeds. For those who have already pledged to register, and even those who have pledged their dollars to help defray costs for registering others, we thank you for help in this worthy cause. For those who were part of our first annual tournament, you will recognize this program to be an on-going tribute to the memory of Evan Cousineau.
