2017 Give Blood Play Hockey Student Leaders
I am David Gardner and a senior at Foothill High School. I have been an ice and roller hockey player since I was eight years old. I played various sports growing up but once I found hockey, that’s all I wanted to play. I have been a part of Give Blood Play Hockey for seven years. With each tournament, I have become more and more involved, not only because of how fun it is, but because of all the good things that come from it. However, the main reason this event is special to me, is that it was started as a result of my grandfather dying from a blood cancer. As a student chairperson this year, I am helping with the food trucks and hope to make it the best event ever. In addition to being a student chair, I am playing on a team…and if anyone asks, “Who do you play for?” I tell them my grandfather, Pa!
My Name is Patrick Gardner and I’m excited to be one of the student chair people for this year’s Give Blood Play Hockey Charity tournament. I love this event for so many reasons. First, hockey is my favorite sport. Second, the Give Blood Play Hockey tournament is one of my favorite weekends of the year. Third, as I have become more involved in the tournament I realize how important it is to help those who are less fortunate. In addition to playing in the tournament, I have also donated blood and volunteered to work in various event booths. As food truck organizer this year, I want to help create a great atmosphere that encourages others to bring their friends and families to the event in the fight against pediatric cancer!
My name is John Gardner. I am in my senior year at Foothill High School. My passions are hockey and engineering. I have volunteered at Give Blood Play Hockey for many years helping where ever I am needed, including working the booths, setting up, playing on teams and donating blood. This year as a student chair person, I am involved with the food trucks. I am also designing an app, called GBPH, for the event which provides a wealth of tournament information right at your fingertips. I am very proud to volunteer for an organization that has such a positive energy and creates an environment where everyone wants to join in the fight against cancer! By the way, I give blood and I play hockey.
Hi, my name is Timothy Gardner. Give Blood Play Hockey is very special to me, as it started because my grandfather died from Multiple Myeloma, a form of blood cancer. I have been very involved with the tournament for many years. However, my main involvement has been and will continue to be building and welding whatever is needed…from a lemonade stand, sign displays and the “Bloodometer” to silent auction and raffle items. As a senior at Foothill High School, I have been in the engineering program since freshman year and hope to continue my engineering education at Penn State University. But wherever life takes me, Give Blood Play Hockey will always be in my blood!
